The cleanliness directly hits my attention to detail
As a business traveler who travels back and forth to Beijing year-round and has stayed in dozens of hotels along Chang'an Avenue, my level of attention to hygiene in accommodation can be described as "detail sensitive". After all, on busy business days, being able to sleep in a completely clean and secure room is more important than anything else. This time, I came to Financial Street to connect with a long-term project and chose Min Zu Hotel Beijing. Originally, I only came here for its reputation as an old national guest. After staying for five days, I realized that the cleanliness here directly broke my stereotype of old hotels on Chang'an Avenue.
When checking in, the front desk took the initiative to explain to me that all guest rooms strictly adhere to the "one guest, one guest, one guest" standard. They also smiled and said that if there were any detailed requirements for hygiene, they could call the front desk at any time, and the staff could come to adjust within ten minutes. The first second I pushed open the door, I was stunned. There wasn't a lot of stuffy smell commonly seen in old hotels that had been open for many years. The air was a light disinfectant mixed with the refreshing scent of jasmine. Even the wool carpet that had been laid in the hallway for many years had no stains or dampness. Walking on it barefoot made it soft and there was no need to worry about getting caught in invisible dust.
I took out my portable inspection light that I usually use for business trips and scanned it around. Many business hotels have blind spots that are prone to dirt and grime accumulation, but here they are all clean: the marble mirror in the bathroom has no water stains, the ceramic tile gaps in the shower area are shiny white, the toilet seat and base cannot even find any yellow stains, the drain outlet of the washbasin cannot even find a strand of hair, and even the air outlet of the hair dryer has not accumulated dust. The bedding feels fluffy and freshly dried, and there is no odor on the pillow. I lifted the sheets to check the mattress, but couldn't find a single strand of hair left behind. What surprised me the most were the easily overlooked parts: the air conditioning vents by the window had no dust accumulation, and the air blown out after opening had no stuffiness; The corners of the spacious business desk are polished to a shiny finish, without any residual coffee stains; The spare blankets and pillows in the wardrobe are well sealed with dust bags, so there is no dampness when taken out. Once I went back to my room early to pick up documents and happened to catch the cleaning lady cleaning. I saw her using different colored cloths to wipe the tabletop, countertop, and bathroom separately. The cloth used to wipe the toilet would never touch the washbasin, and even the floor was dragged twice in one direction with a mop. Finally, she used a dry cloth to wipe the water stains on the skirting board clean.
The hygiene in public areas is also reassuring. Every time a customer leaves the breakfast room, they immediately wipe and disinfect the table. The plates in the pick-up area are all freshly disinfected with residual heat. Even the elevator buttons have free disinfectant wipes placed next to them, which can be used at any time. The few days I stayed happened to coincide with the sandstorm in Beijing, and the hotel even arranged for staff to come and help me clean the coat I brought for the business trip for free. The details were done more carefully than I did at home.
I used to think that the cleanliness of old hotels on Chang'an Avenue would inevitably be discounted due to room age. However, after staying at Min Zu Hotel Beijing this time, I realized that true cleanliness is never superficial, but about putting every invisible detail into practice. It only takes 3 minutes to walk from Fuxingmen Station on Line 1/Line 2, without taking a detour at the subway station. Follow the pedestrian walkway on Chang'an Avenue for two steps to reach the hotel's main entrance. When checking in, the front desk staff brought the warmth unique to old Beijing. They heard that I was a non local tourist visiting the capital, so they specially arranged a high-rise city view room for me. They also drew a map of the surrounding niche walking route for me, saying that walking along West Chang'an Avenue towards Tiananmen Square, you can see many old buildings hidden in hutongs along the way, which is much more interesting than crowded with popular attractions. The moment I opened the door, I was amazed. The whole french window was facing the traffic on Chang'an Street and the Xidan Business District in the distance. The tea table beside the window had set up the special Babao tea given by the hotel in advance. The warm fragrance came out, and the tiredness of the journey was almost gone.
What surprised me the most was the traces of time hidden in the hotel. The old chandelier in the lobby shone with warm yellow light, and the old photos hanging on the walls recorded decades of the hotel's history. Even the carpet patterns in the hallway had a sense of elegance from the last century, completely devoid of the restlessness of many new hotels. The next morning, I took a walk along the hotel trail and met many nostalgic old guests who came to Beijing. They all laughed and talked about the scene of their first visit to the Ethnic Hotel decades ago, and even the air was filled with a sense of security that time had accumulated. The details of the room were particularly well taken care of, with the mattress being just right in softness and hardness. After a day of running around and lying down, the soreness and bloating in my body quickly dissipated. The sound insulation was far beyond expectations, and even if there were cars passing by on Chang'an Avenue downstairs, I could still sleep soundly with the door closed.
The convenience of the location is even more abundant. Walking downstairs for 5 minutes, you can enter the Xidan business district without taking a taxi. You can wander around old shopping malls and niche bookstores in slippers. Ten minutes' walk to the other side is Financial Street, where there are many authentic Beijing snacks hidden in the old alleys along the way. You don't have to cross half the city to check in at popular online stores, you can just go downstairs and enjoy authentic braised dishes and grilled pork rings. On days when I didn't want to travel far away, I sat in the window teahouse of the hotel for an afternoon, ordered a Pea puree cake tea with jasmine tea, and watched the traffic on Chang'an Street passing by slowly outside the window, even the time seemed to be stretched out.
The dining experience of the old hotel is also very authentic. On the breakfast buffet, the fermented sour milk made from ground mung bean wow gold coke ring and the steamed Steamed rolls with meat inside with old Beijing characteristics are particularly authentic. Even a lot of ethnic flavor snacks are well prepared. This is also the traditional feature of the ethnic hotel that has been open for so many years. You can taste the authentic flavor of many ethnic groups without going away. After strolling along Chang'an Avenue in the evening and returning to the hotel, you can also enjoy authentic Tan family dishes and small portions at the restaurant, without having to gather at a large table to taste the classic taste of old Beijing banquets.
When my three-day trip to Beijing ended and I left with my suitcase, I was still carrying the Beijing Eight Pieces that I had just bought from a local old brand. Compared to the crowded internet famous hotels in the city center, the comfort of Min Zu Hotel Beijing lies in the solidity and steadfastness hidden in the fireworks of Chang'an Avenue.
